Presented by Logan Square Preservation, Pillars & Porticos is a collection over twenty architectural and cultural landmarks, with historical descriptions, anecdotes and photos thoughtfully researched and written by Logan Square locals.
We invite you to drive, bike or walk your way through our historic boulevards and tree-lined streets to visit significant homes, monuments, churches and gardens. Pillars & Porticos is sure to be your new go-to reference to the diverse heritage of these neighborhood gems.
Why a Guide?
Like many local events, the much anticipated 34th Biennial Logan Square Preservation House Walk was postponed until September 2021. The popular tour is LSPs most significant fundraiser, contributing to architectural preservation, beautification efforts, tree-planting programs and a host of community engagement activities.
Pillars & Porticos not only offers a way to raise awareness and grow our membership while in-person meet-ups are on hiatus, it exemplifies the organization’s mission to educate about architecture, history and the culture of Logan Square.
Have you ever wondered about the names Kimball, Logan, or Diversey? Where did Longman & Eagle gets its name? This guide provides a historical overview of the founding of Logan Square and showcases twenty-two sites with the stories of those who built, lived, and worked in these places. Follow the map or make your own way as you explore observe and enjoy our historic neighborhood.
